Destination Berlin

Travelling throughout Germany you will find a convergence of the old and the new – traditions, architecture, technology, the rise of multiculturalism, superstition and faith. Modern German culture is a melting pot of ideas, dangerous or otherwise, these ideas have taken form and shape. The city of Berlin tells a unique story. Severely bombed during World War II, Berlin was left in ruins. The millions of tonnes of rubble left behind were transported out of the city and transformed into a man-made mountain known as Teufelsberg – translated Devil’s Mountain. Subsequently a listening station was built on Teufelsberg to spy on Communist East Germany during the Cold War era.

Today Berlin is an architectural wonder in that it is a mixture of the old, the new and “Plattenbauten” (buildings constructed with prefabricated cement slabs) reminiscent of Communist East Germany. It really is a marvel to see the diverse and conflicting architectural styles blended together. The cultural landscape of Berlin is not too dissimilar, an eclectic mix of people and industry. Following the fall of the Berlin Wall, the city of Berlin quickly evolved into a cultural centre, gaining a solid reputation in the arts, creative industries and night life! Berlin also boasts some world renown museums. In light of significant events of the past there is much to explore. There are also many culinary delights to be found in Berlin and a fast growing coffee culture. You won’t be disappointed. Berlin is a must see destination for the adventurous and discerning traveller. No matter your interest, there is something for everyone in Berlin.
